Welcome to the U.S. Army Garrison Baumholder, the “Home of Champions.” It is a priority for us to ensure that the needs of all Soldiers, civilians and family members arriving in Baumholder are properly seen to so that their tour of duty is a pleasant, enjoyable and learning experience. Once Soldiers, families and civilians are fully integrated into the community we continue to provide for their needs on a daily basis. Soldiers with family members here can rest assured that the needs of their loved ones will be fully taken care of as they focus on their duties and mission.

 

Together with numerous tenant and support units, the USAG Baumholder provides logistical support to the Soldiers and families assigned to elements belonging to the 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The USAG Baumholder also provides logistical support to the resident tenant and support units themselves.

 

What we offer

Baumholder has a full complement of facilities available to Soldiers and families that include a modern post exchange and commissary and two state of the art military dining facilities. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service also provides numerous dining facilities on post. An excellent outpatient clinic caters to the medical needs of the community and the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is only a 20-minute drive from Baumholder. Our Dental Clinic provides outstanding support to Soldiers and on space available bases to family members. Family members are highly encouraged to maintain enrollment in TRICARE dental.  The community also has two elementary schools and a middle school for students in 7th through 12th grade. Pre-school and child care facilities are located in each of the two housing areas managed by USAG Baumholder.

 

Baumholder’s outstanding family support network reaches out through the Army Community Service program to all members of the community with support and information to answer any of their questions and meet their family or personal needs. the  Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation offers a wide variety of services – everything from a place to get a good workout to skiing vacations in Switzerland and Austria, or a trip to the Mediterranean. Baumholder also boasts its own golf course, an indoor swimming pool, camping site, and many other recreational and sports facilities.

 

With a population of more than 13,000 Americans and a local population of 4,800 Germans, Baumholder is like a stateside military post in many respects. It has all of the facilities that would be found in an American town of the same population: schools, churches, medical facilities, recreational facilities, banks, a variety of stores, and all other necessities. All this and even more make Baumholder an ideal European assignment The USAG Baumholder is comprised of Baumholder proper, also known as Smith Barracks, and Wetzel housing area located in the town of Baumholder.

An assignment to Germany can be a once in a lifetime experience and Baumholder is the ideal location from which to fully enjoy a stay in Europe. The USAG Baumholder and the city of Baumholder are centrally located in Europe with France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, Switzerland and the Bavarian Alps all within a few hours' drive. Family members in the United States who have relatives stationed here often make Baumholder their “headquarters” as they travel throughout Europe.
