Child Care Programs
Throughout CDS programs you will find competent, trained and caring people working with your children. Our CDS caregivers and FCC providers are trained on a continuing basis in child development, health, safety and early childhood education. Our management personnel are early childhood professional trained in child care administration. We are all here to provide your child with an on-going, creative and developmental learning program. We look forward to establishing a partnership with your family in meeting your child care needs.

Quarters-Based Family Child Care (FCC)
Family Child Care in government quarters is offered as an alternative
and supplement to center-based care. FCC providers are certified and
offer a variety of services including nighttime care, extended care
(overnight and weekends), special needs, etc. Prior to certification,
the home must meet the fire, safety, health, and home inspection
standards. All members of the family over the age of 12 must also pass
extensive background checks. After certification, all providers must
follow the standards to ensure the home is a safe environment for
children. Proponents from fire, safety, health, and FCC complete
inspections throughout the year.
Each provider is assigned to a Training and Curriculum
Specialist (TACS). The TACS guides each provider through the required
FCC training. Competency in FCC skills (i.e., appropriate guidance,
interactions, nutrition, developmentally appropriate activities, etc.)
is assessed by successfully passing written tests and by demonstrating
the skills. Prior to caring for children, a provider must successfully
complete twenty training units to become provisionally certified. During
the first year, the provider completes thirty-eight additional training
units to become fully certified. Thereafter, each provider must complete
twenty-four training units per year. The Training and Curriculum
Specialist ensures developmental programming is met through frequent
home visits.
The meals that Providers serve are approved by a dietitian
and meet the USDA guidelines and standards.
Baumholder FCC Providers provide quality care for children
ages 4wks through 12 years.
Hourly Care
Hourly care is offered on a space available basis for children between 6
weeks and 12 years of age. Reservations are required, although there may
be drop-in slots available, on a first-come, first-served, basis. School
Age Services offer open recreation opportunities for occasional users.
The Centers are normally closed only on American holidays. In
the event that there is an emergency closing, you will be notified as
soon as possible.

Youth Sponsorship Clubs
are located in the School and Middle
School Teen Centers. The
clubs are for youth to come together and focus on assisting new youth to
Baumholder with school and life transitions which all military families
encounter. Welcome and
Farewell activities are provided also.
Note to Parents: Youth sponsorship plays a very important role in the moving
process. Families face many questions and concerns are expressed when
preparing for moves. For everyone, including youth, the fear of the
unknown is scary and very real. Some questions might be:
Who will be my friends?
What will my new school be like?
What activities/sports are available?
Will I fit in?
What are the other kids wearing?
A youth sponsor
will help provide the answers to these questions and many more. Her/his
job is to help eliminate the unknowns. The most important part of being
a youth sponsor, is to be a friend and make the new student feel welcome
to the Baumholder community. A youth sponsor will introduce the newcomer
to other students at school and the youth centers.
